100 Kogi Traditional Rulers Presented with Appointment Letters

In a bid to strengthen the traditional institution in the state, Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello has presented letters of appointment to one hundred graded and upgraded traditional rulers in the state.

The traditional rulers who cut across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state were presented with the appointment letters at the Conference Hall of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lokoja earlier today.

he Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. (Dr.) Abubakar Sadiku Ohere who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Usman Dan Victor in presenting the letters said, due process was meticulously followed in the grading and upgrading of the traditional rulers.

Engr. Ohere further noted that the Governor strictly adhered to the Kogi State Chiefs (Appointment, Deposition and Establishment of Traditional Council) Law No. 23 of 2006 in appointing, grading and upgrading the
Chiefs.

Engr Ohere added that since assumption of office, the Governor has continued to accord due cognizance to the traditional institution in the state. He maintained that the exercise should be seen as a government effort to reposition and strengthen the traditional institution in the state.

He charged the Royal Fathers to rule with the fear of God and promote peace and harmony in their various communities noting that the government will not take it lightly with any traditional ruler who fall short of his expected rolein his domain.

In his remark, the Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Mall. Abubakar Salihu thanked Governor Yahaya Bello for the status elevation of 100 traditional rulers in the state. He declared that the measure will go a long way in addressing age long injustice in the state.

Mall. Salihu charged the Chiefs to key into the New Direction Administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello, adding that they should continue to give security top priority attention in their respective domains.

In his address, the Technical Assistant to the Special Adviser, Pst. Arome Alfa extolled Governor Bello as a God-fearing and traditional rulers friendly Leader. He maintained that His Excellency, the Chief Security Officer of the state has put the necessary security measures in place for the traditional rulers to complement in their domains.

In his vote of thanks and appreciation on behalf of other Royal Fathers, the Obobanyi of Ihima, HRH Samuel Adayi Onimisi appreciated His Excellency for his political will to correct the aged injustice in the traditional institution in the state.

Chief Onimisi assured the Governor of their continual loyalty and support for his administration, adding that they will be fair to all in carrying out their responsibilities in the grassroot.

The occasion was attended by the Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Omofaye who represented the Speaker; Hon. Ugbede Paul, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Musa Jimoh, Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Alh. Yahaya Karaku, Chairman, Elders Advisory Council, Kogi Central; and host of other dignitaries.

Presented with appointment letters at the occasion are 17 First Class; 23 Second Class; and 60 Third Class Chiefs.
