A night road crash on Idakoivo hill axis of the Okene – Lokoja road has resulted in a traffic gridlock in Okene township.
The accident which occured around midnight caused panic among residents of Okunchi area of Adavi local government when an Abuja bound cargo truck developed mechanical problem and rammed into other vehicles on a prolonged traffic jam on the hill and exploded in huge flames.
The inferno engulfed about six other vehicles with thick smoke enveloping the community as residents scampered for safety.
At about few minutes to midnight on Tuesday, an SOS message from residents of Idakoivo and Okunchi communities of Adavi local government area indicated that huge flames have engulfed the area after a loud explosion from moving vehicles along the Idakoivo hill.
By daybreak, about seven vehicles including a J5 bus and heavy duty trucks were burnt.
When EbiraView visited the scene of the accident this morning, a trailer bearing a 40foot container was still burning with heavy smokes bellowing into the sky.
Residents in the area believed that the driver of the J5 bus and his motor boy were burnt to ashes in the huge inferno.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen arriving the scene as at the time of filing this report.
No casualty is recorded in the area.
