My dearest people of Kogi Central, let me use this opportunity to thank everyone of you for your unflinching support that has brought us victory.
The people of Kogi Central have spoken – and they have spoken plainly and emphatically. So let me speak plainly and emphatically in return.
Yesterday, it was a time for us to choose a leader, and I can guarantee you without fear or favor that you have made the right choice by trusting me.
I must commend the maturity and peaceful conduct displayed by all of you and I must say, it is a privilege and honour to have entrusted me with this responsibility.
I am deeply moved by the love, trust and confidence from all the five Local Government Areas and I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
I am immensely grateful to God Almighty, the New Direction Government of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for providing a level playing ground opportunity for all the parties. My family, friends, supporters, the APC party leaders and everyone who generously contributed their time and effort to our campaign during this very long election season. I am very grateful to you all.
You had a choice between me and other candidates, and you were right by the choice you made. I promise that I’ll not disappoint you.
I am humbled by the honour you have bestowed on me, and I promised to do my best to justify the confidence reposed in me.
To my opponents, I must commend you all and I enjoin you to join hands with me in carrying out this assignment for the rapid development of our district.
Even if there was rancor before now I believe it is over. We are brothers and sisters. We need each other in so many ways to continue to prosper as a people.
I appeal to all of us, to desist from making further attacks of any form, hate inciting statements, and pettiness or frivolous allegations. Let us make a new start to build on the existing peace and move forward to meet the great challenges ahead. Let us work together to make Kogi Central enviable to other Senatorial Districts. We all desire good life and I’m confident that we shall achieve it all together.
I see this as a mandate to work and serve the people, mandate to reform, and invest in the future, and it is also very clearly, an instruction to deliver.
And on that, I will want my people to be rest assured that I stand firmly by my campaign promises, prominent among which is the plans on job creation, youths empowerment among others. Be rest assured that just like I left remarkable footprints as a reformer in all the areas I’ve served, as a banker and the chairman Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), I will leave a remarkable and impressive footprint in your hearts as your senator.
I look forward to a prosperous Kogi Central, where the yearnings and aspirations of the people will be met, where hardship and inadequate infrastructure would become a thing of the past.
Thank you all and God bless.
– Alhaji Yakubu Oseni
Senator-elect, Kogi Central Senatorial District.
