Assessing SDGs Implementation in Kogi State Under the Leadership of Arc. Ahmed Okara

The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations in 2015; otherwise known as global goals for Sustainable development or Agenda 2030. This is because the goals are expected to be achieved in the fifteen years period between 2015 and 2030. The goals are broad and somewhat interdependent yet each has a separate list of targets to achieve. In total, they have 169 targets.

Since the adoption of the SDGs in September 2015, and the beginning of their implementation in january 2016, Arc. Ahmed Okara as a professional and a great manager of resources has established and completed several project across the state and their is still ongoing plan on specific project to be undertaken soon in order to achieve the set goals. Its essential because a successful implementation of the SDGs, which replaced the millennium development goals will ensure a healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

This would mean successful attainment of citizens’ aspirations for prosperity, peace and wellbeing, as well as the preservation of the earth’s biodiversity and equitable distribution of natural resources. In other words, the SDGs generally seek to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030. Kogi State SDGs is also charged with the responsibility of Inter-governmental coordination of the SDGs implementation, planning, multi-stakeholders’ partnership and resource mobilisation, as well as ensuring a seamless and robust strategic communications and advocacy around the SDGs Agenda.

The State Government under the leadership of his Excellency, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello is his magnanimity bent on helping the state SDGs achieve this set goals and the plans. He has successful done so much to see that major infrastructure embarked up on by the Kogi State SDGs see the light of the day and the aim was to ameliorate the plight of our people and to also gather objective information to be used to engage the government and other development actors so they could come up with relevant programmes, projects and policies that would address the issues towards the realisation of the kogi State SDGs. With the quality and passion the Governor Alh. Yahaya Bello and the State focal person Arc. Ahmed Okara has shown so far, In no distance time Kogi State will continue to witness more massive development in real and concrete most importantly at the grass-roots.
